About Us
Our Story
Some recipes are more than food. They are memory. They are identity. They are the smell of a kitchen on a Friday morning, the sound of a wooden spoon against a copper pot, the voice of a grandmother who never measured anything — because she didn't need to.
Teta Loula's Egyptian Kitchen began as a family archive and became something much larger: a living celebration of Egyptian culinary heritage, passed down through generations and now shared with the world.
The Woman Behind the Name
Teta Loula — our grandmother, our guide, our kitchen compass — spent decades cooking for family, for neighbours, for anyone who found their way to her table. Her recipes were never written down. They lived in her hands, in her instincts, in the quiet confidence of someone who had made molokhia a thousand times and still approached it with care.
When we began collecting her recipes, we realised we were doing something urgent: preserving a culinary tradition that risks being lost in the rush of modern life. What started as handwritten notes on scraps of paper became a cookbook — and a mission.
140+ Years of Recipes
Our cookbook is not just a collection of dishes. It is a family archive spanning more than 140 years of Egyptian home cooking. Inside, you will find:
- Authentic recipes kept within our family for generations
- Handwritten tips and techniques passed down exactly as they were taught
- Folk stories and food memories that give each dish its full meaning
- The rituals, seasons, and occasions that shaped what we cook and why
Every recipe carries a story. Every dish is a doorway back to Egypt.
Printed in Egypt. From Our Kitchen to Yours.
We made a deliberate choice: our cookbook is printed in Egypt. Not because it was the easiest option, but because it was the right one. The book belongs to the land it comes from. It is made with the same care and intention as the food inside it.
We ship worldwide — to Egyptian families in London, Sydney, New York, and everywhere the diaspora has carried its flavours. Wherever you are, this book is a way home.
More Than a Cookbook
Teta Loula's Egyptian Kitchen is a community as much as it is a brand. We host pop-up dinners, cooking classes, and cultural gatherings that bring people together around Egyptian food. We believe that cooking is one of the most powerful ways to preserve culture — and that every meal shared is an act of remembrance.
Follow our journey on Instagram and TikTok @tetaloula — where we share recipes, stories, and a little bit of the magic that happens when tradition meets a modern kitchen.
